In recent months, a surprising wave of criticism has emerged from some of America’s most outspoken conservative figures, directed at one of the United States’ closest allies: Israel.

Leading this charge is former U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz, who has accused Israel of mistreating Christian visitors by blocking their entry and even spitting on them during visits. Alongside Gaetz, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has criticized the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) for not registering under what she may have meant as the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), while former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has raised concerns about visa restrictions for Americans traveling to Israel.

Gaetz has further highlighted the irony of the U.S. providing billions in aid and military support to Israel while Americans allegedly face restrictions and hostility when attempting to visit.
