In a surprising announcement on August 22, 2025, President Donald Trump declared that the United States government now owns a 10% equity stake in Intel Corporation, the iconic American chipmaker.
Trump, speaking from the White House and later posting on Truth Social, described the deal as a "fair" arrangement that converts approximately $8.9 billion to $11.1 billion in previously awarded government grants—originally pledged under the Biden administration's CHIPS Act—into direct ownership.
"The United States of America now fully owns and controls 10% of INTEL, a Great American Company that has an even more incredible future," Trump proclaimed, crediting Intel's new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, for sealing the agreement during a recent meeting.
